Dalil Named Algeria’s Best Startup at Seedstars Algeria
Seedstars World, the global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes brought its Algeria round to a successful close during Seedstars Algeria. The event took place on Saturday October 29th at Sofitel Algiers Hamma Garden Hotel where 9 selected startups were invited to present their ideas in front of an international jury panel. Seedstars World is looking for smart startups that solve regional issues and/or develop profitable products for the global market.
The event attracted interest from over 200 attendees, and brought together entrepreneurs from Algiers and beyond. The local winner, Dalil, is an object recognition and navigation system for visually impaired people.Dalil believes that even with expert mobility skills and the use of a cane or a guiding dog, environment detection and recognition can be stressful for the blind. In response, they built camera glasses (or any kind of camera) linked to a mobile application to help the blind detect and recognize objects around them. Dalil was selected as the best startup in Algeria for its innovative idea and its disruptive approach to medtech.
Dalil will be participating at the Seedstars Summit, taking place in Switzerland in April 2017, a weeklong training program with the opportunity to meet the other 60 winners, as well as investors and mentors from around the world. Traditionally, the final day of the Summit will be dedicated to pitching in front of an audience of 1000 attendees, with the possibility of winning over 500K USD in prizes and equity investment. Dalil will also have the opportunity to participate in the Seedstars MENA Regional Summit December 13-15 2016 in Bahrain with the winners from Egypt, Tunisia, UAE, Qatar, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, and Morocco.
