Personal Project to Innovative Startup: Ideathon Finalist eCloset’s Story

Wael Nabbout, Feb 09 2012

Founded by Evelyn Zoubi, eCloset.me is a fashion social media platform, which unites brands and retailers on one online platform containing a dynamic content of clothes, emphasizing and empowering local talents, where users can create fashion outfits online and share them with other people.

Evelyn first got the idea for eCloset when she decided to take pictures of her clothes, upload them to her computer and use a program that she wrote to plan her outfits for the coming days by mixing and matching items and saving the results on a calendar. Evelyn later used the same idea as a university project in her final year as a college student studying MIS.

Evelyn eventually pitched eCloset at ArabNet’s 2011 Shift Digital Summit in the Ideathon competition as one of the ten finalist. “It was the first time I publicly talk about the idea (…) the feedback was really beneficial, through ArabNet you get to share your idea with a lot of different people and know what you’re doing wrong. It was a very good stop.”

Fast forward 10 months and the eCloset.me is online. With a 7 member strong team, the eCloset concept has been refined and now accommodates for local designers to showcase their offering. Users can view clothing items from 17 different designers, assemble outfits and get redirected to online stores to make a purchase.

The website launched on the 8th of January with a competition for best assorted outfit. The competition received overwhelming receptions and went viral with 1800+ participants.
