El Grocer Takes Home the Gold!

The leading on-demand grocery delivery app in Dubai, el Grocer, won the Gold Award at Publicis90. The competition launched by Publicis Groupe on the occasion of their 90th anniversary received 3,500 applicants from 130 countries from which only 90 startups were selected as winners.

The 90 selected startups will receive equity funding of between €10,000 and €500,000, as well as one year of mentoring in management, technology, marketing and communication from a Publicis Groupe agency executive.

The pitching process consisted of multiple rounds for the Publicis jury (several business and technology personalities) to assess the market opportunity, el Grocer’s team and traction so far. It involved questionnaires, several documents to be shared for them to do their due diligence, interviews, video pitches and more.

El Grocer solves the nuisance of grocery shopping through connecting shoppers and retailers enabling their users to choose from thousands of products available in supermarkets around them and get their delivery within 1 hour at same store pricing (no markups).

To make things even sweeter, they partner with brands to offer their shoppers discounts and promos, hence replicating what's happening in the offline world but in a much more accurate way because they have access to way more data than in the offline world.

Shoppers in the region were used to grocery delivery but before el Grocer, business was done through the phone and felt that the whole experience was broken: telephone lines busy, misunderstandings on the phone, wrong products arriving to houses, not knowing in real time the prices and full range of the store etc...Through technology, el Grocer is improving this multi-billion delivery market and customers seem to love it with very high repeat purchase rates.
