Meet the Third Batch of Startups to be Accelerated at Speed@BDD
Speed@BDD held the launch event of their third acceleration program at Centrale yesterday, where the six promising Batch III startups were announced. For the first time in the history of the program, fifty percent of the startups were not Lebanon-based and came from abroad (specifically the UK and Turkey).
Beirut’s accelerator will take the startups under its wings for a 3-month period. Each startup will receive $30,000 in seed funding, as well as access to +50 mentors, providing training in business skills, as well as support in accessing new markets and potential partners. In return, Speed@BDD will get a 10% equity stake in each startup. 31 companies have graduated from Speed@BDD’s acceleration programs so far.
The Batch III startups are the following:

The program will conclude with a Demo Day, during which the graduating startups will pitch their businesses to a carefully selected crowd of investors and players in the regional entrepreneurship scene. At least one startup will get sponsored for a potential Silicon Valley follow-up immersion.
Strict criteria dictate the startup selection process at Speed@BDD, namely the international appeal of the product or service, as well as the competence of the team or individual. Last year, three startups: Jellyfish, Synkers and Vision in Motion were sponsored to attend the summer edition of the ‘LebNet Ignite Powered by Blackbox Connect’ program in Silicon Valley, a two week residential acceleration designed to immerse startups in Silicon Valley’s culture and provide them with access to advanced expertise.
