Meet the Thought Leaders of the Investment Industry
ArabNet is rolling up its sleeves for the upcoming Digital Summit taking place in Dubai on April 30-May 1.
This year, the 2-day conference will include 5 forums during which subjects related to media and marketing, ecommerce, real estate, financial technology, big data, digital business transformation, and many others will be explored.
To introduce the different forums, we are producing a series of forum-focused articles, with this third article featuring the Investment Forum.
In 2017, MENA’s digital startup ecosystem experienced an impressive year of funding with $650M invested in 270 deals. Last year also observed increasing global investor interest in healthtech, biotech, Autotech, Foodtech and Agrytech, an interest that has been mirrored by the behavior of MENA investors.
Global investments are predicted to focus more on cross-industry solutions such as the application of AI across business fields and this trend has gradually been infiltrating the MENA startup scene. For example, Egypt’s Agolo, a natural language processing software, is an example of an AI application that caught Microsoft's attention and attracted a $3.5 million deal. The MENA startup ecosystem is definitely becoming a hot spot for global investors who are closely eyeing robust investment opportunities in the region.
This year’s Investment Forum at the Digital Summit will feature dedicated discussions for investors about startup investing and venture capital as an asset class, the future of alternative funding and global technology trends. It will also delve into fund closures, governance and initiatives supporting the growth of the investment ecosystem.
